In Vancouver, there has been experiments in a new style of Condominium design. This new transformable condominiums claim to be “the world’s first fully transformable homes built in a large-scale condo development.”
So examples of such design would be a space in the Kitchen that can be folded out into the dining table. Instead of having a room solely for cooking and another just for serving food, we save space by compacting them into a single room. When you need to cook, fold out the kitchen compartment and when you need to serve, simply fold out the other dining table compartment.
Along the same lines, TVs and Beds can be folded into the walls, such that one can reveal the TV while entertaining guests, and after they have gone home you can bring out the beds for a good night sleep.
According to the designer, the inspiration for this design comes from ship cabins, which tend to be very small, but make excellent use of their space so as to ensure that the sailors and ship crew still get the rest they deserve. Why not bring this design ethic out of the sea and onto land? As population rapidly grows over time, this can be a good precaution to combat against under-housing.
Because of Singapore’s limited space, if this condominium design is successful in Canada, perhaps it could be imported into Singapore to provide a much more compact living space for cheap. What do you think? We believe that this development is certainly interesting for the world of Condominium properties.
